Description: Rescue frames and winches are an essential piece of equipment for urban search and rescue, commercial industry rescue, including those operating in deep pipe line trenches or working near other step edge environments, where extraction can be difficult without the right training and equipment.

Rescue frames and winches provide a wide range of solutions that can quickly affect a rescue to employees who have become sick or injured whilst at work on steep terrain. This course will cover the Larkin, Quad-Pod frames and mechanical winch systems. Rescue frames are used by construction companies who operate in trenches; fire and rescue; search and rescue teams; and oil and mining exploration companies, both onshore and offshore.

The course is practically based, training orientated.

Prerequisites: 18 years or over and is for those inexperienced and experienced rope rescue operators

 Assessment format:

  • Short exam paper – open book from course materials
  • Practical test scenarios


A certificate of training and assessment components will be issued. The course has a 2 year validation.

climbworksafety ltd recommend a 1 day update refresher/assessment every 2 years.

All of our courses fall within scope of BS8454:2006 which provides recommendations and guidance on the delivery of training and education for work at height, including rescue.  It is applicable to training for work which falls within the scope of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. The standard is applicable to training for work at height in an industrial context, including work at height in factories and in the construction, civil engineering and cleaning sectors, all climb industries courses are delivered in accordance with those standards.
