Description: This course is a specialised tactical based programme, based around a competent training and assessment programme. The course is specifically designed to ensure that standards are clearly identified for each work at height operator. A range of equipment will be demonstrated and used on this course, including quick release systems which can only be sourced and provided by climbworksafety ltd’s partnership with Bornack work and rescue equipment.

Techniques will cover removal tactics, working with fire arms at height and rapid escape tactics from hazardous situations. The course will cover urban rigging and rescue skills on a variety of structures. The course will specifically cover the following situations:

  • Searching/work at height mapping and communications
  • Protester removal tactics (compliant and non-compliant)
  • Firearms deployment
  • Hostage/other negotiations
  • Covert technical installations
  • Rope access communications

Prerequisites: Police officers nominated for this course must be comfortable with heights; the minimum age is 18 years

Content of course:

  • WAH regulations, H&S at work regulations, PPE regulations, PUWER, LOLER regulations
  • Equipment inspection and maintenance, marking and recording procedures and regulations
  • Dynamic risk assessing and method planning
  • PPE for working at height, correct and fit for working purpose including specialised access equipment for special enforcement agencies
  • Principles of rope access and rescue planning
  • Choosing and assessing safe rope anchors on buildings, trees, anchor bolting and weights
  • Understanding fall arrest equipment and systems
  • Understanding safe operational use of equipment – knowing your load ratings
  • Engineering a safe anchor system, vectors and angles
  • Descending and ascending rope access techniques
  • Rope rescue systems for ascent and descent
  • Using a deviation angle
  • Safe work positioning
  • Lowering and hauling systems
  • Understanding suspension tolerance and in-tolerance
  • Passing re-belays
  • Rope access scenarios

 Assessment format:

  • Short exam paper – open book from course materials
  • Practical test scenarios

Certification:

A certificate of training and assessment components will be issued. The course has a 2 year validation.

climbworksafety ltd recommend a 1 day update refresher/assessment every 2 years.

All of our courses fall within scope of BS8454:2006 which provides recommendations and guidance on the delivery of training and education for work at height, including rescue.  It is applicable to training for work which falls within the scope of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. The standard is applicable to training for work at height in an industrial context, including work at height in factories and in the construction, civil engineering and cleaning sectors, all climb industries courses are delivered in accordance with those standards.
