Description: This course is for fire and rescue personnel who have already received basic water rescue rope training and are SRT level 1 technician qualified. The course will enable rope rescue fire crews to carry out water rescue in moving water environments, with natural barriers of steep ground – for example, canyons, deep trenches and steep ground above moving water.

Rope techniques covered are also appropriate for urban environment rescues from harbour walls, bridges and buildings.

Prerequisites: Fire crew members nominated for this course must be comfortable with heights, hold the SRT level 1 technician award, and be first aid qualified. The minimum age is 18 years.

  • Knowing the recue loads and understanding static safe system factors
  • PPE personal /roped ascent and descent techniques, including re-belays
  • Application and pros and cons’ of lowering devices and rescue ratings
  • Rigging safely, engineering stance management for rope operators

  • Managing steep and loose terrain edges
  • Working with rescue stretchers – tying in procedures

Certification:

A certificate of training and assessment components will be issued. The course has a 2 year validation.

All of our courses fall within scope of BS8454:2006 which provides recommendations and guidance on the delivery of training and education for work at height, including rescue.  It is applicable to training for work which falls within the scope of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. The standard is applicable to training for work at height in an industrial context, including work at height in factories and in the construction, civil engineering and cleaning sectors, all climb industries courses are delivered in accordance with those standards.
